This superb item of Newcastle United memorabilia is an original pennant produced by Millar Pennants to celebrate the success of the Fairs Cup in 1969.

United’s first experience of European competition saw some of the great European clubs of the era put to the sword. The laidback manager, Joe Harvey, epitomising the triumph as at half-time in the second leg of the final he sauntered into the dressing room after seeing his team on the ropes and in danger of throwing away a three goal first leg advantage.

Don’t worry he said, get one and they (Ujpest Dozsa) will fold, Newcastle scored and ran out 6-2 aggregate winners. Man management!

Back in the day pennants were regularly swapped by the captains of the two teams in important matches. For the fans, pennants were produced as items of memorabilia to capture a particular moment in Newcastle United’s history.

Made of a satin material this fantastic item of European glory Newcastle United memorabilia would make a great gift.
