Daily Express Special Colour Pullout | Newcastle United Fairs Cup Semi Final v Glasgow Rangers
Original newspaper from 1969 in great condition.
The Daily Express produced colour pullouts for Newcastle's venture into Europe in the Fairs Cup.
This edition was produced on 21 May 1969 for the Semi Final 2nd leg match versus Rangers at St. James' Park.
The headline of "Yes, United Can Do It" followed on from the 0-0 draw that United got at Ibrox two weeks earlier.
In the return leg at St. James’ Park, a tussle between Wyn Davies and Ron MacKinnon early in the game ended with bottles flying from Rangers fans, followed by a pitch invasion. Then Newcastle fans came on after their side went 1-0 up after half-time. The referee announced he would take the players off if it happened again, so logically, when Jackie Sinclair made it 2-0, Rangers fans came on in an attempt to get the game abandoned. They were chased off by police with dogs, who then guarded the visitors’ end for the last ten minutes.
This pullout features many colour photos including some great shots of the players in Lisbon.
