Loaded Magazine | April 1996 | Kevin Keegan | Newcastle United
'Loaded' Original Magazine April 1996 Kevin Keegan, Newcastle United Cover
KEVIN KEEGAN – I Suppose You Think That’s Funny – Keegan Gets Serious
This classic KK cover was shortlisted for the Periodical Publishers Association's Great Cover Debate, the magazine trade association's nationwide consumer poll to find the most iconic UK magazine cover of all time back in 2008.
At the time Derek Harbinson, editorial consultant and ex-editor of Loaded said:
'This is one of the great 'poster' covers that put Loaded at the heart of the mid-Nineties men's mag explosion. It has everything that Loaded was about: it's full of brash confidence, irreverent wit and charm. It has the look of a classy, intelligent, quality publication that has been attacked by a bunch of kids with Asbos, which in essence was the exact editorial mix of Loaded.
With the balance of power now shifted firmly to celebrities and their agents, it's almost impossible to imagine a magazine doing something similar now and getting away with it.'
Contents include a great 7 page article entitled ‘how Kevin Keegan overcame this curly perm to become Britain’s leading football manager’ by Sid Waddell.
Also in this issue:
- Pamela Anderson
- PJ & Duncan aka Ant & Dec
- Robert de Niro
Loaded Magazine was first published in 1994, it was launched as a British magazine for men and is considered to be the "original lads' mag".
